Since I have gone on two GLS trips, I feel that I’ve had the privilege of gaining a good understanding of how GLS operates as an organization. I admire GLS as an organization because I understand the values and principles the organization is founded upon. I agree with the way that GLS goes about building bridges of understanding between China and the US, as well as its operations in Kyrgyzstan. All of GLS’ short-term programs don’t just give its attendees the experience of a short-term service or cultural exchange program, they provide a poignant glimpse at what it might look like to serve long-term in China or in Kyrgyzstan. In other words, one of the main reasons I enjoy working with GLS is because its leaders make it their mission to challenge their participants to consider long-term service. It is because of GLS, and the various opportunities that I’ve had to meet other long-term associates and workers, that I have developed a perspective on what it means to serve abroad.

I’m really glad that I came. I think God opened my heart and desire to pray for Muslims. Before, I didn’t even know what to pray for but now I have a much better understanding of everyday Muslim life and culture.

Following our summer project one student sent out a letter to his prayer supporters to summarize his experiences there.

Hey Family, I’m back in the states! Thank you so much for prayers, your emails, and your willingness to read my emails. It’s been less than a week since I’ve settled in…still affected by jet lag a little! Anyway, wanted to share with you all just a few concluding thoughts.

Most Memorable Moment–Watching sheep graze with my friend Bekmurat. He is a shepherd boy. I told him of another shepherd boy, David. He wrote many psalms. I also told him of The Shepherd that leads us to green pastures. It was a great illustration to see the words of the bible come to life!

Most Heart-Wrenching Moment–Saying goodbye to all the kids as they were crying their eyes out and asking us to come back next year. Them telling us that they would never forget us and that they will wait for us next year! Doing our secret handshake for the very last time in a very sorrowful way, knowing that we’ll never do it together again.

Most Joyous Occasion–When a young girl decides to turn to God and realize there is something so much bigger than this world. To hunger and thirst for righteousness, giving her the bible, setting her up with a local sister for accountability.

Most Dramatic/Prayerful–The gospel day, where we dramatize Jesus as the savior from the evil of this world. When the boys and girls know that it was Jesus who is their solution, and that tears were shed because people had to face pains from the past to move on with life.

What I Will Miss the Most–My team mates and my students. Eating in their houses, sharing about heavenly values with them. Learning about their traditions, and laughing and sharing smiles with them. Working with my team mates to keep our students interested. Loving on the lost and showing Christ love to them.

Thank you family for supporting me, for encouraging me! If you have any questions, please respond, if you want to know more about KG, please send an email. This was truly and unforgettable experience. Thank You.
