
CHINA SUMMER PROJECT

This summer, share God’s love with Chinese university students in this 4-week cultural exchange program and service project. Opportunities await for making lasting friendships, exchanging culture, and discovering if you’re called to a career of service overseas.
This adventure is for you if you are:
- a group of 8-12 college/grad students with your own team leader
- committed to sharing God’s love with others
- open to new cultural experiences
- native English speakers (no Chinese required)
Project includes:
Orientation & Training
- personal preparation and team building facilitated by GLS staff
- to be held in major cities where the teams come from
- 3-5 days in May-June with flexible dates to optimally serve your group
3-4 Weeks in China
- departure from San Francisco – Saturday, July 6, 2013
- return to San Francisco – Sunday, July 28, 2013
- 2 weeks of cultural exchange discussions (in English) with Chinese university students
- meeting with missional professionals in business, technology, medicine, and other fields, and visit multinational companies
- 1 week of community service in partnership with Chinese university students that you have become friends with during the first two weeks
- a week-long day camp for migrant school children in an urban setting or
- a week-long summer camp for junior high or high school students in rural China
Debriefing & Re-entry Preparation
- 2-3 days in your home city after you return to North America
- processing personal and group experience
- reflection and integration of lessons learned from the summer experience
Location & Housing
You will stay on or near university campuses in large urban cities. Housing is modest, but clean dormitories, guest houses, or hotels. Locations will be assigned after acceptance. Placement requests will be accommodated as best we can.

Team Application Fee: US$200
Estimated Project Costs:
Cost for individual students:
- international airfare
- US$250 per student to cover visa fees; immunizations; room & board for orientation & debriefing; personal spending money
- most expenses after arrival in China will be covered by a special grant
Costs for team:
- GLS staff to travel from California Bay Area to your city for orientation & training
