LEARNING TO SAY "YES" TO GOD

Lacey’s story is a story of learning to say “yes” to God on the unexpected, yet beautiful journey of following His call.

In 2018, on a short-term trip to East Asia, Lacey felt drawn to serve among Muslims. One day, back home in the Midwest and stopping in her car at a red light, she told God she was not ready to go.  Right at that moment, a truck drove through the intersection with “CHINA” written on it!

Not long afterwards, Lacey chanced on an online message.  A missionary was asking who would be willing to go share the Good News with the lost. The appeal touched her. What she needed was a job that would take her to the field.

So, when a teaching post turned up in a Muslim-majority area, Lacey was quick to respond.  But just as she began communicating with the school, the government started expelling expatriates from the area to curtail foreign influence.  As a result, the conversation had to be deferred.

A year later, Lacey heard from the school again. They paid for her to visit in person, and a generous two-year contract was signed.  But within weeks, the Covid pandemic broke.  Travel restrictions along with increasingly prohibitive policies against foreigners quickly closed that door.

Lacey grieved the lost opportunity. But attending the GLS monthly prayer Zooms helped ground her in God’s call.  All she could do was be available whenever He would send her.

In March 2022, a friend in Central Asia invited her to visit. We connected her to a missionary school there. Could this be of the Lord? What if nothing came of it, just as before? As she wrestled before God, a deep peace came over her. With it came a sense that she would be teaching at that school.

Lacey visited the school. Everything felt right. Alas, the interview that was arranged for her did not take place. Still, she had peace. Lacey came home. A week later, she got her phone interview and a job offer. With her church’s blessing, she will leave for the field in August.

Over the last four years, following God’s call has not been a straight path for Lacey. But each turn is a stepping stone to the next. She had her doubts and fears, but she would always end up saying yes to Him. With every yes, the calling grows louder, and her heart grows stronger. She will be discovering how the Lord can provide all that she needs in prayer and financial support in so short a span of time. There had been a lot of waiting in the past. Now, it will be a sprint.
